Mambomagic - La Musica
- Born in Newcastle in the frozen North of the UK far from the world of fiery afro latin music, it was a chance meeting of a love for latin jazz and a visit to salsa club that started it all! A record collecting obsession became a deep rooted passion for latin music and dance. After a spell Dj'ing house music in his youth he swiftly moved on to latin music after finding the greater complexity of the rhythms fascinating as a music student. Growing tired with some of the bland salsa releases of the early 90's, Chris acquired a taste for the urban salsa sounds of 60's and 70's New York and Puerto Rico and particularly the lesser heard groups from Peru, Panama and Venezuela. Today his collection is over 6000 vintage LP's and Cd's. Here you will find some information on some of the rarer non mainstream music that he collects from guaguanco, guaracha and mambo to cuban son, cha cha cha and bolero. As an experienced Salsa DJ Chris has held a 5 year residency at one of UK's largest most successful salsa clubs Salsology and has played everything from international salsa festivals and congresses to intimate social gatherings. His favourite styles are New York, Puerto Rican, Pervian and Panamanian both new and old school, Guaguanco, Latin Soul and Latin Jazz.
